Frequently Asked Questions

What's the Costs?

Initial registration fee is $33, and is prorated based on when you join. This fee covers your initial registration with Boy Scouts of America. You may optionally purchase a yearly subscription to Boys Life magazine for $12, and it's also prorated.

Additionally, there are other expenses associated with scouting. These are the uniform, the activity book, our activity fees, and special event fees.

The first items that all scouts require is their uniform. There are several pieces to the uniform, and information on what and where to purchase the uniform are covered in our welcome packet. Uniforms typically cost $116 when purchased from the scout store, but can be cheaper elsewhere. If you cannot afford a uniform, we have extras. The Class B uniform is included in the $116 cost estimate.

Scouts may optionally purchase the activity book for $16. These are not necessary for the program year, but do help to achieve additional advancement awards when a scout is not able to attend den meetings.

Second, our pack has a large operating budget to provide the boys (and their siblings) with all the fun activities we do year-round. Each cub scout has an annual activity fee of $185. The boys learn how to raise money for themselves thru Popcorn Fundraising, and if they follow our guidance, they won't pay anything out of their own pockets. We provide plenty of events, locations and opportunities to make this a success for the boys. If the boys sell $600 in popcorn, they have covered their individual activity fee. The scouting unit gets a percentage of popcorn sales, and that percentage helps to cover the activity fee. If they chose not to sell popcorn (or don't sell $600), then they are responsible for paying the difference of what they owe in the $165 activity fee.

Again, our goal is to make scouting accessible to everyone. Please feel free to Contact Us if you have any questions.

If you have financial challenges, we have resources available to make sure your son can join scouting while you still providing for your family. We do not want to turn away any boy interested in scouting simply because they can't afford it. All you need to do is let us know and we can work with you.

How often do you meet?

There are two types of meetings held on a regular basis: pack meetings and den meetings. Den meetings are meetings for scouts within the same grade (Tigers, Wolves, Bears, and Weblos I, and Weblos II). Pack meetings involve all dens and the whole family!

Pack meetings are the first Thursday of each month. Additionally, the pack may have other special activities thru the year in addition to the pack meetings. Such activities include camping, popcorn show-and-sells, pinewood derby, rocket launches, and Blue and Gold, to name a few.

Den meeting schedules are set by the den leaders after consultation with all the families. Typically, den meetings are every other week.

Where do you meet?

Pack meetings are usually held at Indian Creek Elementary school in North Carrollton.

Den meeting locations vary and are set by the den leader. They are often set based on the activities and goals of the den meeting. For example, hiking activities will require an outdoor meeting, usually at a park. Indoor meetings can happen at a den leader's house, Harmony School of Innovation, or Grace Lutheran Church.
